Phone the DWP about Income Support on 0800 055 6688 for new claims to discuss your existing benefits or to make a new claim.
Income Support is a monetary benefit that the UK government bestows upon eligible UK residents. When you are deemed eligible for the benefit, you will receive a minimum payment of £57.90 per week. This allowance can be increased depending the particular financial circumstances of you and your partner and if you are a carer for a child.
You can calculate the amount of money you can claim with either of the two online benefits calculators that are endorsed by the Income Support department: benefits-calculator.turn2us.org.uk/AboutYou or www.entitledto.co.uk/benefits-calculator/startcalc.aspx.
To be eligible for the Income Support benefits you need to be between 16 and UK state pension age. You also have to be either a single parent with a child under 5 years of age, be pregnant, be a carer or sick or have a serious disability which prevents you from being able to work. You should also have a low income and a total savings of under £16,000, which includes savings that your partner may have.
You should also be working not more than 16 hours per week and your partner should be working no more than 24 hours per week. You should also be residing in England, Wales or Scotland. If you are a resident in Northern Ireland please visit their official website www.nidirect.gov.uk/income-support for guidance and rules that will affect your claim. Please note that even if you don’t have a permanent residence you are still eligible to claim income support.
